Outstanding Award for Incredible Edible Radcliffe

Earlier this month, Incredible Edible Radcliffe received a well-earned top-level ‘outstanding’ RHS “It’s your neighbourhood” award. We checked in with Andrea from the group, who shared this wonderful story:

 

Earlier this year, Incredible Edible Radcliffe joined other groups from across the community and applied to be assessed by the RHS as part of the North West in Bloom – It’s Your Neighbourhood awards. Judges visited our site and several others in July, assessing groups based on criteria such as community participation, environmental responsibility, and gardening achievement. In total, nine local groups entered the awards.

All our volunteers and the wider community have come to love our Incredible Edible site. However, we were a little nervous about being assessed by the RHS team and unsure what to expect on results day. At most, we had given ourselves a level 4, which would class our site as ‘Thriving’.

Our volunteers have dedicated countless hours to planting and maintaining garden beds, as well as organising community and corporate days. These efforts have helped us provide fresh produce for local families and host workshops that bring together residents of all ages. Through these initiatives, we have fostered a strong sense of community and environmental responsibility.

When it was announced that our site had been awarded level 5 ‘Outstanding’, we were completely overwhelmed. As this was our first attempt, we were speechless and immensely proud of what our volunteers and the wider community have achieved together.

Remembering our Incredible Edible roots, this achievement truly demonstrates that small, local actions can create significant positive change. The recognition from the RHS scheme has given us a real confidence boost and renewed passion to pursue even greater things for Radcliffe in the future.
