Morning all Im creating a post about this as it might help some of you prevent unnecessary repairs. Bean to Cup coffee machines are really popular, the one I am featuring is a Delonghi but the principles apply to all of the ones I have seen. As well as descaling, they all require the O Ring seals checking every 6 ish months – and certainly Delonghi don’t tell you how to replace them. If your machine is 2 years old or more, definitely check this, and do the slide test when you do a cleaning cycle. Inside the machine is a mechanism like a giant syringe where the ground coffee is compressed before forcing steam through it. If the seals aren’t checked, the syringe plunger gets increasingly hard to pass down the syringe which either burns out the motor, blows the power supply or cracks the housing of the “transmission” which does the raising and lowering of the plunger. The good news is that the seals are really quick to check – 30 secs to check , and no more than 5 mins, £5 and no tools to replace if they are needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeMPwQFUFls&t=342s
do all of these steps on a cold machine which is unplugged from the mains. This video shows how to remove the infuser and check it ( for Delonghi) - if its stiff to slide up and down, the seals need replacing ( see video 40s in). I personally wouldn’t worry about replacing the mesh screen the call the shower head in the video if its flat – clean it, hold it up to the light and make sure the tiny holes are clear and refit, You don’t need to necessarily go through all of the stripping down of the infuser as detailed, the key thing is to replace those O Rings ! In the video, the presenter has a pot of food grade lubricant, the ebay seller above kindly supplies a small portion in a bag for you, so you don’t need to buy a great big pot. Then reassemble as per the video, and put the retaining clip back on – then marvel at how easily and smoothly it slides within the housing. So that replaces the 2 seals in the infuser, the 3rd is found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1ful0ZjbiU&t=175s
(removing o ring seal 4m 44secs in, replacement 7 mins 7 secs into the video) – just make sure the groove where the O Ring sits is clean of ground coffee and replace the new O Ring, then wipe a bead of the supplied grease around the seal and you’re done - happy machine, and better tasting coffee! Im going to plug this guy on ebay – I get all my seal kits from him - he will send you all 3 seals and a little portion of food safe grease, all sent by recorded delivery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3x-DeLonghi-Seal-O-Ring-36x4-Gasket-for-Infusion-piston-Brew-group-unit/114165563807?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l26493x DeLonghi Seal O-Ring 36x4 Gasket for Infusion piston & Brew group unit | eBaywww.ebay.co.uk
