Exciting announcement! Following lobbying from Cllr Graham Turner and myself, Denby Dale ward has established a partnership with Grow Wild, a great initiative run by the Royal Botanic Gardens and the National Lottery Community Fund. Grow Wild is an incredibly popular project which provides packets of wildflower seeds free of charge to individuals and communities. Because of the level of demand, they can only provide them for so many of the people who apply. However, because of the work we’re doing and the ambitions we have, our whole ward is now being considered by Grow Wild as a priority area – meaning that if residents or groups apply now we will have a strong chance of getting a significant number of successful sign ups. All you have to do is fill out the online form (which takes less than 2 minutes) and put “other” and specify “Denby Dale” in the “where did you hear about us?” field. This means they will be able to identify our applications and prioritise us in the distribution. You can find the link to the application form here:
https://www.growwilduk.com/form/sign-grow-wildflowers-us-autumn-advice-and-seeds. I would urge everyone to fill it out and apply for a pack. If you don’t have space at your home but would like to support it, apply and pass your pack onto a friend or a community group. We have an opportunity here to make our ward look a little bit nicer, capture some carbon and safe a few bees – all at no cost to the taxpayer. It’s a great opportunity and I hope we can make the most of it.
